In the last article we talked about the ups and downs (mostly Downs) of Co-Registartion List Building.

This time I want to talk a little about the BEST ways to build a list that will be profitable in the least amount of time.

But first, you need to understand the psychology of someone joining your list.

As I said in the last entry, people on Co-Reg lists never JOINED your list in the first place. In the case of Co-Reg lists, you BOUGHT their names and addresses, so you’re at a disadvantage right from the get-go! Most of them won’t even know who you are, let alone WHY you are contacting them.

And sadly, MOST of them won’t even remember asking for more information from the Co-Reg form they filled out. So to them, you’re just another “Spammer”!

But even in the case of someone who personally ASKS to be on your list, the game is FAR from over there.

No matter who you are or how famous you are, once you get them on a list, you have to PROVE to them beyond a shadow of a doubt that it was a good move on their part to give you their contact information.

Sure, being famous in whatever niche you’re building a list for most certainly helps to get them in the door. But trust me, it will not go far towards keeping them there, much less convincing them to join your program or give you money!

No my friend, it’s up to YOU to win their trust first! Then and ONLY then, can you ask them for ANYTHING!

As my good friend Joel Christopher has been teaching for YEARS …

“People buy from those they Know, Like, and Trust!”

And no matter who you are, unless you personally know your prospect and therefore have already GAINED that respect, you have to EARN it from every person that gives you their Contact info.

This is the basic Fact of Life in List Building. So get that set indelibly in your mind before you even get started, or you’ll just end up frustrated and quit, like most do who don’t understand the psychology of list building!

And don’t expect your new list to be an overnight Money Maker. It WILL take some time!

But if you do it right, the little bit of work you do now will pay you for the rest of your life

We’ll talk more about that in future articles, because I believe THAT is the most important aspect of List Building, and unfortunately the one that MOST people either miss, or just don’t understand.

But first things first … you have to get them ON your list, before you can gain their trust … Right?

So how do you do that?

There are a number of ways to get people to give you their contact info so you can start the process of gaining their trust and respect …

You can Write articles about your niche and submit them to the various PLR Article Archive sites to help build credibility for yourself within your niche, and then in your resource box (the ‘About the Author’ section at the bottom of each of your submitted articles), send them to a “Squeeze” page where they can opt in to receive more free information about the subject in question, by giving you their contact info …

You can take those same articles and offer them in the form of downloadable reports that they need to download from your site, and then ask for their email so you can send them the download link …

You can find, write or have written a book that can be delivered by email or postage (just make sure if you are mailing it to them, that their email address is required info on the form they have to fill out to get their prize. In this case, you might also want to consider asking them to paying just the Shipping costs so you are not out of pocket) …

You can give away software that requires downloading, and asking for their name and email address so you can send them the download info …

You can offer free trials of services, membership sites, or online communities such as forums, and get their contact info from the sign up form …

You can offer them any NUMBER of attractive products or services that you can find, create, or have created, that you know would appeal to their particular interests by virtue of how they actually came to be on your signup page …

But, whatever you offer them, it should be designed to weed out the looky-loos and draw in only the interested, hungry prospects you are looking for. For instance, if you are selling German Shepherds, make sure the free report is about “GERMAN SHEPHERDS” and that they KNOW that up front, so that you don’t get a bunch of “COLLIE” lovers mucking up your list or costing you resources, when they will never be interested in your “GERMAN SHEPHERDS”!

Are you starting to see a pattern here?

You just need to offer them something that you KNOW the ones you are looking for will be interested in, in exchange for their contact info (so you can deliver it to them). Then you take that list and market your wares to them later (AFTER you’ve built a relationship with them).

And if you do this right, your list will grow and you will prosper from it.

The Problem is … no matter WHAT you’re offering, if you don’t attract interested eyes to your site to SEE your “Bribe” (and make no mistake, that is exactly what it is), you won’t get ANYONE on your list!

That means you need to drive (or pay to have driven) targeted people to your site.

In other words you need to somehow get a steady flow of people to your site who are interested in what you have to offer.

One Sure fire way to get interested eyes on your offer is to do an Adwords Campaign carefully targeted at the exact people you are looking for.

But remember … Adwords clicks cost money, and if you are using Adwords to build a list, you’ll need to be able to afford to lose that money for the time being, as it will take some time to cultivate the relationship you’ll need with each new member of your list to convert them into paying customers.

And you’ll need to have a plan to recoup that money as part of your original business plan, BEFORE you even get started buying those clicks, because you need to remember that only a small percentage of the people who click on your Adwords ads will end up as paying customers.

And you had better know what you are doing. Cause you can lose a fortune real quick if you don’t!

Adwords is not a gamble, it’s a science, but if you are not an expert at that science, it’s one of the fastest ways I know to throw away LARGE chunks of money!

There are a number of great courses out there that can teach you how to use Adwords profitably. One such GREAT course is Greg Cesar’s Adwords Profit System.

Just make sure you have taken one and understand it completely, before you try it.

Adwords is NOT a technique to be learned by Trial and Error, unless you’re already wealthy and just have more money than you need. ;o)

So for MY money, I prefer Free Generic Search Engine Traffic!

if you know how to optimize your pages to qualify for the Search Engines to send you their search traffic, you can get all the traffic you could ever want … for FREE!

Search Engine Optimization is big business and can be quite complicated (although not NEARLY as complicated as the ones who get paid to do it would have you believe). But done right, and it can solve ALL your traffic problems very quickly.

Unfortunately, most people don’t know HOW to optimize their pages to capture that generic traffic.

So what are THEY to do?

Well I’ll tell ya … The smart ones build BLOGS! And not just ANY old blog, they build WORD PRESS BLOGS!!!

See, the Search engines LOVE blogs. And WordPress Blogs are the best optimized, most versatile, most customizable, most effective, and easiest to use blogs available anywhere.

They are also incredibly optimized right out of the box and can start getting the search engine’s attention in just a matter of days (sometimes even hours).

And the best part is they’re FREE! As are all the THOUSANDS of themes and Plugins that you can get from a number of sites like,, and, just to mention a few. (just do a search for Word Press Themes or Word Press Plugins or Word Press Widgets in Google and you’ll find more than you could ever use)

And since the Search Engines LOVE blogs due to their web 2.0 (interactive) nature, you can quickly and easily build tightly targeted niche blog sites that will draw traffic from the SEs like Bees to Honey!

And that’s the key here. You want to target a specific, tightly targeted group that you can be sure will be interested in what you have to offer, simply by the fact that they searched for what you have to offer and arrived on your blog seeking information SPECIFICALLY about it.

And once you get them to your site you simply offer them something they would be interested in (as mentioned above) for their contact info, and start the process of building the trust you will need to get them to spend money with you … instead of someone else.

Remember Joel’s words … “People buy from those they Know, Like and Trust”. And once you have a group of people who have held up their hand and specifically told you they are interested in what you have to offer …

SO much so that they are wiling to give you their Contact info to find out more …

All you have to do is win their trust by always giving them more than they expected, and never asking for anything in return until you’ve wowed them with your knowledge and your generosity.

That my friend is called “Relationship Marketing”, and THAT is what List building is all about!

If you do it right and give enough of yourself up front for free, they will almost feel compelled to buy from you ;o)

In the meantime remember, Word Press Blogs are not the only way to get generic traffic to your site, but for most of us, it certainly is the EASIEST and most effective way.
